Welcome to 'Llyn Tegid' - The largest natural lake in Wales

Bala is a delightful inland market town located on the Eastern edge of the Snowdonia National Park, about twenty seven miles from the coastal seaside resort of Barmouth.

The shops in Bala are made up of independent retailers that sell a varied selection of everyday goods, as well as a good range of eateries that serve different cuisines from around the world.

Although Bala is not a coastal town, water-based sports certainly feature heavily on the town's list of activities. Most of the water sports take place on Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid), at about four miles long by roughly one mile wide it is the largest natural lake in Wales. Due to its size, Bala Lake caters perfectly for sports like fishing, canoeing, sailing and windsurfing.

The River Dee that passes through the town and into Bala Lake offers thrill seekers more adventurous water sports like white water rafting and white water tubing, the river is also renowned for its excellent fishing.

Views of the mighty Bala Lake can be enjoyed from the Bala Lake Railway, a nine mile long narrow gauge steam train journey that takes passengers from the pretty village of Llanuwchllyn through Snowdonia National Park to Bala and back.

As Bala lies in the Snowdonia National Park its surrounding landscape provides extensive and varied opportunities for keen mountain bikers to take on a variety of trails, including bike trails through the nearby Penllyn Forest and the Berwyn Mountains.

Bala has been accredited with the 'Walkers are Welcome' status
The nearby Aran, Arenig and Berwyn mountain ranges are perfectly suited for hill-walkers seeking a challenge. Bala also has plenty of easy going walks for families with pushchairs and many scenic walks like the five-mile 'Betsi Cadwaladr Trail'.

The town is home to Bala Golf Club, here you will find a delightful 10-hole uplands course which combines a challenging round of golf with spectacular views of the Aran, Arenig and Berwyn mountain ranges.
