Beaumaris Tourist Information

Beaumaris is a coastal town which lies on the banks of the Menai Strait, it's about a three-mile drive to the village of Llanddona, and about four miles to the village of Penmon. From Beaumaris, it's about four and a half miles to Menai Bridge which connects Anglesey with mainland Wales.

The A545 road travels directly from the town to join up to the main A5 road which snakes its way through North Wales then off into England, this makes Beaumaris very easy to reach by car. Buses call in on Beaumaris regularly throughout the day.

Beaumaris Holiday Cottage Rentals
This bustling town with its Georgian and Victorian architecture is a delight to wander round. Beaumaris has an assorted selection of independent shops selling a wide range of products including toys and books, jewellery, gifts, cards, art and antiques, wool and fabrics, and much more besides. Hungry and thirsty visitors will find the town has plenty of eateries and pubs to choose from.

Sitting rather proudly on the edge of the town and the Menai Straits, surrounded by a moat (as a castle should be) is the 13th century Beaumaris Castle, a ‘walls within walls’ castle which unfortunately never got fully completed due to a lack of money and supplies. Today Beaumaris Castle is a popular visitor attraction which has been declared a World Heritage site. Visitors will find plenty of intramural nooks and crannies, stairways and secret corridors all waiting to be explored, the castle's huge battlements offer excellent views over the Menai Straits and Snowdonia.

Whilst in town it's worth popping along to Beaumaris Courthouse, it's a fascinating building which shows how the justice system of the period operated. Today's visitors are able to stand in the dock or just sit in the courtroom or the upstairs gallery, there are also interesting case readings of prisoners who were 'up in court'.

The town's pier is a real draw for visiting tourists
Protruding out into the waters of the Menai straits is Beaumaris pier, this lovely small pier is a hive of activity where families can while away a few hours crabbing, anglers can spend a few leisurely hours fishing off the pier, it's also a great place to just sit and relax and make the most of the spectacular views over the Menai Straits and Snowdonia.

At the end of the pier is a landing stage for passengers embark and disembark from the boats which run sea fishing trips as well as cruises along the Menai Straits and to Puffin Island. Straddling the pier is Beaumaris Beach, it's a sand and shingle beach which is ideal for relaxing whilst the kids have a run around (swimming is not recommended here).
