Home to Wales’ smallest museum

Cilgerran is a village which lies on the banks of the River Teifi, roughly four miles downstream from the village of St. Dogmaels.

Amenities in this riverside village include three pubs, a couple of shops selling everyday necessities, a restaurant, takeaway and a post office.

Just behind the village high street lies Cilgerran Castle which owned by the National Trust, but under the custodianship of Cadw. Perched high up on a promontory overlooking the River Teifi, this striking 13th-century castle ruins still allows visitors to gain a good perspective as to what its size would have been back in the day, in addition, there are display boards and helpful informative staff which can tell of Cilgerran Castle's interesting history that dates back thousands of years.

Another popular visitor attraction for Cilgerran is The Welsh Wildlife Centre & Teifi Marsh, this is a fantastic family day out is set in a 264-acre wildlife nature reserve. The site has a variety of habits including four themed nature trails just waiting to be explored, either on two feet or on two wheels.

The River Teifi which meanders its way past Cilgerran is perfect for riverside walks and canoeing as well as fishing for salmon and sewin.

The annual 'Cilgerran Festive Week' takes place each August, it includes a week-long range of activities and a carnival and horticultural show. The main event is set in the shadow of Cilgerran Castle, on the River Teifi, where villagers and competitors from all over the world take part in traditional coracle racing.

Cilgerran is home to Wales’ smallest museum which is dedicated to Tom Mathias who was a local self-taught photographer, the museum is housed in a red BT Phonebox, yep, a roomy red phone box.
