Harlech Tourist Information

Harlech - Small but perfectly formed

Harlech is a delightful small town nestled along Cardigan Bay, it is just under a ten-mile drive North to Porthmadog and roughly a ten and a half mile drive South to Barmouth.

This Snowdonia National Park town lies on the A496 road, there are plenty of regular bus services which stop in the town, Harlech also has its own train station. There a good selection of independent shops to browse around along with a nice selection of eating establishments to choose from.

Harlech Town Self-catering Cottages
Overseeing the town from on top of the rock where it was built lies Harlech Castle, an impressive medieval castle which has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by Edward I in the late 13th century, Harlech Castle is today in the caring hands of CADW who maintain the castle for visitors to wander around and soak up some of its vast history. If you get the chance to make your way up to the ramparts you will find outstanding views over the coast and Snowdonia.

The town is home to Harlech beach which offers a vast stretch of unspoilt, beautifully clean golden sand backed by dunes. It's not one of those commercialised beaches where you can hear those nearby annoying amusement arcade machines as you're trying to relax, instead, Harlech beach offers beachgoers the chance to chill out and enjoy the outstanding views and, of course, the large expanse of sand means plenty of room for the kids to enjoy themselves.

Harlech has one of Wales' premier golf courses nestled between the castle and the beach at Royal St. David's Golf Club, it provides golfers with an outstandingly laid out 18-hole links course which is noted for a succession of long testing par 4 holes and 5 par 3's.
