Headquarters of the Bala Lake Railway

Llanuwchllyn is an inland village nestled inside Snowdonia National Park close to Bala Lake, it is positioned about five and a half miles from the town of Bala and twelve and a half miles from the village of Llandrillo.

You will find the village has a welcoming pub that serves food, although there are no shops in Llanuwchllyn, your everyday shopping needs are well catered for in the nearby town of Bala.

Llanuwchllyn Railway Station is the headquarters of the narrow gauge Bala Lake Railway, starting from the village it takes passengers on a wonderful 9-mile return steam train journey through Snowdonia National Park to Bala.

The village of Llanuwchllyn lies in a picturesque large valley where walkers will find a range of easy going trails and pathways to head off along, but for something a little more taxing the summits of 'Aran Benllyn' and 'Aran Fawddwy' awaits. From the village, there are a number of short distance and long distance cycling routes along public roads.

Nearby Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid) provides water sports enthusiasts with a range of activities including windsurfing, sailing, kayaking and canoeing. The rivers around Llanuwchllyn and Bala Lake provides anglers with some excellent fishing as does Bala Lake itself, with fish species like brown and rainbow trout, salmon, perch, grayling, roach, pike and eel available.
