Machynlleth Tourist Information
The town with the clock

Machynlleth is a beautiful market town which lies in the Dyfi Valley, about ten and a half miles from the coastal village of Aberdovey and Cardigan Bay.

Machynlleth is a rather charming town where you'll find a broad selection of independent shops along with plenty of cafes, restaurants, takeaways and pubs to get something to eat and drink. Each Wednesday along Maengwyn Street the town plays host to a popular open-air market that is certainly worth a visit.

As visitors arrive in the town they can't fail to notice or be impressed by Machynlleth’s striking landmark, a Victorian clock tower that was built by the townspeople to celebrate the coming of age of the eldest son of the Fifth Marquess of Londonderry.

Located on the outskirts of the town is Machynlleth Golf Club, it boasts outstanding views and beautiful mountain scenery around its challenging 9-hole heathland course.

The diverse landscape that surrounds Machynlleth is ideal for mountain biking, there are plenty of trails varying in degrees of difficulty and length. A few miles North of the town is Dyfi Forest which has a terrain that's particularly popular with mountain bikers, there are a number of easy going trails along with the renowned 'Climach-X trail', which has one of the longest descents in Wales.
