Penmachno Tourist Information
A village set in the alluring Machno Valley

Penmachno is a small, peaceful village which lies in the beautiful Machno Valley on the Eastern side of Snowdonia National Park. From the village, it's also only four miles to the popular inland village of Betws-y-Coed and roughly thirteen miles to Blaenau Ffestiniog.

From Penmachno, there are plenty of walking routes throughout the beautiful Machno Valley and in the nearby Gwydyr Forest. One very pleasant three-mile walk from the village goes through Gwydyr Forest to Ty Mawr Wybrnant. Located in a remote yet stunning valley, Ty Mawr Wybrnant is a traditional stone-built upland 16th-century farmhouse owned by the National Trust.

Gwydyr Forest is also extremely popular for mountain biking and home to the Penmachno Bike trails, here avid mountain bikers can head off along a number of trails including the 19km Dolen Machno, the 11km Dolen Eryri and the 30km Penmachno Trail.

In addition to exploring the Gwydyr Forest on two wheels or two legs, you can also discover the beauty of this forest on horseback, Gwydyr Stables have a large selection of horses and ponies to suit all riding abilities from first-timers to the more experienced. Gwydyr Stables are conveniently located just a couple of miles outside Penmachno.
