Ruthin Tourist Information

Ruthin is a small inland market town in the Vale of Clwyd, located about seventeen miles to the East of Snowdonia National Park. The A494 which travels through the town connects to the A55 Expressway and the A5, this makes Ruthin an easy place to get to by road.

Ruthin and its shops are centred around St Peter’s Square, however, this is not a town where visitors will find a Starbucks or McDonald's. But what you will find are characterful boutique style shops that sell most things one would require whether it be food, clothes and footwear or outdoor equipment, books and soft furnishings.

Eating in Ruthin is like its shopping, it is not a town where you will find all the usual fast food outlets or chain style eateries and pubs. Instead, the town boasts plenty of unique restaurants, cafes, tea rooms and sandwich bars. From fine dining restaurants, traditional pubs that serve food, to cafes, takeaways or snack bars, visitors will find many excellent places to eat throughout Ruthin.

St Peter’s Square is not just all about shopping, it is in fact, a real delight just to wander round, where visitors can admire the many historical and listed buildings. In fact, St Peter's Square is considered to have more listed buildings than any other market town in North Wales.

In keeping with the history of the town is 'Ruthin Gaol', a fascinating visitor attraction and a purpose-built prison where visitors are able to gain an insight as to what prisoners had to endure on daily basis in a Victorian prison system.

Being located in the Vale of Clwyd means there are many enjoyable walks on offer, along with a variety of mountain bike trails especially in the Clwyd Hills.
