Bridgend in South WalesBridgend is a relatively small county which lies in South Wales, here you will find towns and villages set in splendid landscapes, there are picturesque winding valleys like Ogmore and Garw with a lush countryside that provides many varied walking opportunities.

In addition to Bridgend's parks and green spaces like the Bryngarw Country Park, Kenfig National Nature Reserve, Merthyr Mawr National Nature Reserve, and Parc Slip Nature Reserve, the county's coastal area which overlooks the Bristol Channel is just as beautiful.

Although Bridgend town itself is the largest town in the county with its fine range of shops, the seaside town of Porthcawl is the real draw for holidaymakers. In addition to its shops, eateries, and funfair, Porthcawl is blessed with no less than seven beaches, between them, there are quite beaches for those seeking solitude, beaches from which to enjoy surfing, windsurfing and power boating, as well as busy, family oriented sandy beaches.

In addition to boasting more castles per square mile than any other county in the UK, Monmouthshire is a county that is seriously in love with its food as testified to by its many food and drink events and festivals, its award-winning Michelin-starred restaurants, its many delectable cafes and fantastic tea rooms, combined with its amazing food producers.

Sandwiched between, and taking in parts of the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Wye Valley (AONB), Monmouthshire is so ideally suited for outdoor activities, quite apart from its endless walking routes, the county forms the start (or end) of two long-distance cycling routes which are part of the National Cycle Network, the 220-mile-long Celtic Trail, and the 185-mile-long Lon Las Cymru. There are excellent fishing opportunities on the River Trothy and the River Wye, canoeing and kayaking on the Wye, along with a wide variety of water-based activities on nearby Llandegfedd Reservoir.

Holiday hotspots on the Gower Peninsula include Rhossili Bay, it has a multi award-winning three mile long sandy beach which is popular with families and the water here is ideal for a host of watersports, at the North end lies is Llangennith Beach, this is a very popular destination with the surfing fraternity as it offers the most consistent surfing conditions on the Gower. Oxwich is a beautiful bay and a great place to stay, it has a gorgeous village with a number of thatched cottages, a castle, National Nature Reserve, and a fantastic sandy year-round dog-friendly beach.
