Shell Island Beaches in Gwynedd

Shell Island - Called an 'Island' because at high tide the causeway gets cut off from Llanbedr. Why the name 'Shell', yep, you've guessed it, the beaches are littered with shells. In fact, they claim to have two hundred different types of shells washed up on their beaches.

There are three main bathing beaches, all sandy, two of which are only available at low tide.

The main beach is called South Beach and extends for 6 miles.

North Beach aka "dinghy beach" called as such, because visitors are able to launch small dinghies from there.

Central Beach you would think would be the most popular, and busiest of the 3 beaches. In fact, this is the quietest beach and is often unnoticed by holidaymakers.

During the summer months the beaches of Shell Island are extremely popular.

If you're an early riser, we would highly recommend having a go at crabbing by the harbour, it's lovely and quiet at 7am and you can see lots of crabs in the water.
