Aberdyfi / Aberdovey Beach in Gwynedd

This is a lovely long stretch of unspoilt golden sands, which extends for miles.

On the whole, swimming is fairly safe providing you stay away from the estuary as there are strong currents there.

Watersports are very popular from this beach.

I have visited this beach many times over many years in all weathers! There is a car park nearby and it is near the town. The beach itself is sandy with dunes running along the back and it is always fun to collect shells. There can be a bit of an undertow but it's fine for paddling. The beach is so big you can easily get away from people especially by walking towards Tywyn - a part of the beach where dogs are allowed too. I would really recommend Aberdovey beach.

One of my all time favourite beaches in the whole of the British Isles. It is fairly quiet even in the height of the Summer season. That may be because it doesn't have the razzmatazz of Barmouth which is just a little further on.I never disappoints even though this last time we visited the wind was sweeping the sands. It is perfect for picnics as the sand dunes dotted with marran grass give shelter and privacy but if you don't want to bring your own food there are plenty of pubs and cafes including some upmarket ones. The toilets are fine too.The main pleasure however is walking on the long, long beach dipping your toes into the sea as you go picking up mermaid's purses and a variety of shells.
