Porth Oer (Whistling Sands) in Gwynedd

Excellent family beach.

This is a small, sandy and picturesque National Trust beach. Subject to the weather conditions diving, sailing and surfing are popular activities at this beach.

Porth Oer does have a strange (interesting) curiosity.. It actually "squeeks" as you walk on it, this is particularly noticeable as you walk on the dry sand just above the high tide mark. Hence the name 'Whistling Sands'.

Great beach when you finally get down to it, still can't get my head round the whistling sound it makes when you walk across it.

It's a lovely unspoiled soft sandy beach with a nice cafe ideally located on the beach.

The only down side is the fact the beach is at the foot of a rather steep slope and the toilets are located at the top of the slope. I would say the access slope is not really suited for anybody with mobility issues.
