Harlech Tourist Information
Harlech - Small but perfectly formed

Harlech is a delightful small town nestled along Cardigan Bay, it is just under a ten-mile drive North to Porthmadog and roughly a ten and a half mile drive South to Barmouth.

The town has a small number of independent shops to browse around, along with a varied selection of bistros, cafes, restaurants and takeaways to choose from.

Overseeing the town from on top of the rock where it was built lies Harlech Castle, an impressive medieval castle which has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built by Edward I in the late 13th century, Harlech Castle is today in the caring hands of CADW who maintain the castle for visitors to wander around and soak up some of its vast history. If you get the chance to make your way up to the ramparts you will find outstanding views over the coast and Snowdonia.

Roughly a mile from the town is Harlech Beach with its vast stretch of unspoilt, beautifully clean golden sand, backed by dunes. Fortunately it's not one of those commercialised beaches where all you can hear are nearby annoying amusement arcade machines, here instead, you can just chill out and enjoy the outstanding views and, of course, Harlech's large expanse of sand.

Harlech is home to one of Wales' premier golf courses at Royal St. David's Golf Club. Nestled between the town's castle and beach, the club provides golfers with a very well laid out 18-hole links course which is noted for a succession of long testing par 4 holes and 5 par 3's.
