The largest town in Powys

Newtown (Y Drenewydd) is a pretty market town nestled on the banks of the 220-mile long meandering River Severn, located just over six miles from Caersws to the West and about thirteen and a half miles from Welshpool to the North.

This bustling town has a great shopping scene, with a wealth of big high street named retailers and independent shops to browse around. Newtown also has a great choice of pubs, restaurants, cafes, bistros and takeaways which between them offer a range of cuisines from around the world.

Located close to the bus station is Oriel Davies Gallery, spread across three gallery spaces, it exhibits a range of interesting and thought-provoking works of art from a variety of established and emerging artists.

On the outskirts of Newtown lies St Giles Golf Club, situated alongside the River Severn, the club provides golfers with a challenging 9-hole parkland course.

As it passes through Newtown, the magnificent River Severn not only allows for pleasurable short and long distance riverside walks, but this stretch of water has good fishing for wild brown trout, chub, dace and the occasional salmon.
